Brother Barnum was one of the first people to welcome me to Gum Springs Church. He was truly a blessing in my life. He went out of his way to speak to me and my family every time we saw him. He had such a wonderful smile. His empty seat at church Sunday was a sad yet joyful sight. He is with a Lord that he loved so much. Our prayers are with his family. I feel a loss after only knowing him a few short years, I know those who have known him longer than I are surely missing him. He was a true man of God and a role model in our church. He will be missed. I pray the Lord will wrap his family in comfort and grace as only He can.

So sad to read of the passing of Barney. I worked with him at Amana and he was such a nice person. The last time I saw him, he was at Marvin’s.
I always told him, he had the prettiest blue eyes that I had ever seen. May God comfort you and may you hold dear to those sweet memories. Blessed be!

Best neighbor among some great neighbors.
Friendly, wise, helpful, generous, kind, and hard working. He would do anything to help.
He mowed my yard several times over the years without charge just to help us out. He planted, cultivated, and harvested vegetables in his own garden and then picked them and brought them over to our house as a gift to our family. When our children were at home they called Mr. Cowan “Wah-wah.” Now our children are parents and one is even a grandparent. We all loved and appreciated having Mr. Barney Cowan as our next door neighbor for over 25 years. We love and extend our condolences to his wonderful wife Leona and the entire family.
