Obituary

Mrs. Doris Parks Taylor entered into eternal peace on Monday August 18, 2014, at her home after a long illness.

Doris was born on December 30, 1952 to the late James Edward and Dimple L. C. Parks. Her kind, sweet and infectious personality endeared her to everyone who came in contact with her. One of her favorite hobbies and pastimes was interior designing. She loved decorating and if you had ever had the opportunity to visit her home it would remind you of being on the set of an HGTV program. Everything was meticulously placed and carefully thought out. Her love for travel with her husband was her second pastime. Her goal was to travel to each state in America. Her family was very important to her; with family gatherings during Christmas, which was her favorite holiday and she never shied away from any other opportunity to gather the family together even when it wasn’t a holiday.

Doris professed her love for Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Mayberry Street Church of Christ for over 45 years. She was a graduate of Central High School and Motlow State Community College and attended Middle Tennessee State University. She was employed for 28 years at Fayetteville Medical Associates, where she worked as an Insurance Clerk.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories to her devoted husband Anthony, who was her high school sweetheart and best friend. He was right by her side throughout her illness and at her passing. She also leaves two amazing children, Christopher (Lori) Taylor and Toni (Chauncey) Taylor Fitzgerald, both of Nashville, TN, three grandchildren, whom she adored to pieces, Alli Taylor, Chance Fitzgerald and Shaleshea (Terry) Holden. One great-granddaughter, Shamiyah Holden. Three devoted sisters, Mary Ella (Waymond), Buchanan, Fayetteville, TN, Peggy (Pleas Jr.) Dowell, Nashville, TN and Valerie (John) Thomison, Petersburg, TN; two brothers, Odey Parks, Fayetteville, TN and James (Ernestine) Milan, Union Springs, AL; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and a special friends and sisters in Christ Ann Gordon, Cliftina Carter and Jeanne Foxx.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at Mayberry Street Church of Christ with Bro. Cedric Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be  Thursday 10 a.m. -1 p.m at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society,  Mayberry St Church of Christ or Lincoln County Hospital Foundation.

At a time like this, friends want to share the sorrow that you feel. And let you know their caring is so very
warm and real. My heartfelt sympathy to the entire family. Doris impress me with her graciousness, her caring, sharing and loving spirit. Her creativity was a picture of awesomeness and uniqueness. Although, our children’s union made us family, her kindness and love will bond us forever. My most cherish memory will be Thanksgiving 2011. After suffering a great loss in 2011, she uplifted my spirits with an invitation to her holiday dinner. The meal was delicious – especially, the Dressing and home-made cranberry sauce. Her warm hospitality and Christian spirit gave me a ray of sunshine to get thru the holiday. And so, whatever help and comfort friendship now can be, it’s yours today with warmest thoughts and deepest sympathy.

    Mr. Taylor,

My deepest condolences to you and your family…
2 Corinthians 5:6-8 So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. May God grant you strength and understanding during this most difficult time.

I had the privilege of meeting Doris when I taught Chris and Toni at FJHS. She was a bright spot in my day every time I saw her in the years that followed. I know that she was a wonderful mother as Chris and Toni were sweet, very mannered, and always seemed happy. Anthony, I know that you and Doris worked tirelessly to instill those attitudes and manners in your sweet children.. We will be praying for all of you. I feel blessed to have had all of you in my life. Our deepest sympathy is yours.

I’m so sad to learn of Doris’s passing. She was the most radiant personality to grace my life in so many ways. I loved when I was in the Nuclear Medicine room at FMA and I could hear her clip clopping down the hall, always with heels on to look proper. Made me smile everytime. She was also the first one to give me a huge hug and let me cry in her arms after I suffered a miscarriage. I loved her like a mother and now regret growing apart as I moved to New York and now back to Florida. Thanks to her, I’ll always remember Matt Lauer’s birthday, because they shared their big day together….and of course, I can’t forget her car, Matt.
She always made me smile and I so often think so fondly of her. I had heard she was ill, but was remiss in getting in touch with her, another regret. I hope she sees me down here saying a prayer for her, but I already know she’s sitting up in Heaven watching over all of us.
I know I’ll miss just knowing she was on this earth, it definitely made it a better place to be. The FMA family has definitely lost one of it’s most special members.
My deepest sympathies to you, Anthony. I still have a picture I took of you and Doris at a wedding we went to in Fayetteville back in 2004. She always had that beautiful smile that lit up a room.
I’ll miss you Doris, I love you and will never, ever forget you!!
