Obituary

Dr. Jack H. Lamb D.D.S., age 62 of Fayetteville died March 22, 2011. Dr. Lamb was born at home October 3, 1948 in Paris, Tenn. to the late Patrick and Norene Lamb. To his family, he was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle. He served the dental needs of the community for nearly two decades and was a friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dorothy Parks Lamb; son Robert J. Lamb and wife Bonnie of Decatur, Ga; daughters Lucye and Allison of Nashville and sister Patsy Redmon of Paris, TN. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Leigh Bentley, Matthew Durham, Kristin Brown, Clayton Campbell, and Alex Durham and dear friend Father Bede Price.

Dr. Lamb graduated from Grove High School in Paris, TN in 1966 and from Murray State University in 1971. He attended Memphis State University, Middle Tennessee State University and Samford University Pharmacy School before earning his dental degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry in Memphis. In the years that followed, he honed his skills both locally and abroad, first in Jackson, Tenn. and later in the wilds of North-Eastern Canada.

From 1982-1986, Dr. Lamb worked for Grenfell Regional Health Service in Newfoundland, Canada — at times flying into isolated fishing towns by sea plane to tend to residents’ tooth ailments. The job exposed his family to the wonders of a wider world, and his youngest daughter Allison was born there in 1986. That same year, he moved back home to Tennessee, where he worked for Tennessee Public Health in Savannah and Selmer. He opened his first private dental practice in Paris in 1986 before settling into business in Fayetteville in 1991.

Dr. Lamb was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a past member of the Fayetteville Rotary Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed studying world history, reading historical epics, painting scale models, traveling and above all spending time with those he dearly loved.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2PM at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Ward and Rev. Allen Black officiating.  Burial will follow in Higgins Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Dr. Lamb’s family request donations be made to the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church building fund.
